Halloween safety tips for the whole family.
Are you ready for Halloween? While putting up your decorations and picking out the right costume, making sure that you know how to prevent any injuries or accidents can help to ensure that you can fully enjoy the holiday. Keep these Halloween safety tips in mind for the whole family.
While decorating your house:
- Move any items that children could trip over while making their way to your front door, such as toys, hoses, and decorations that are in your walkway or on your porch.
- Make sure that your outdoor lights are working properly. Replace any lights that are burnt out with new, bright lights.
- Instead of using a candle to light your jack o lantern or add some spooky shadows around your house, use a glow stick or flameless candle to help prevent a fire.
- Bring your pet inside and keep them locked in a safe part of the house. Pets can easily get scared of all the sounds and smells of Halloween and dart out the door when trick or treaters come to the door.
While driving around on Halloween night:
- Use extra caution when driving around at night and turn your headlights on earlier than usual to help you see children more easily and to be more visible.
- Pay extra attention when coming up to any crosswalk or intersection. Kids are very excited on Halloween and can easily dart out into the road without any warning and will run through intersections.
- When backing out of your driveway, make sure to double and triple check that there are no children walking behind your car.
