Too Toxic To Trash
If you are like most people, you probably have a pile of hazardous trash in your garage that you do not know what to do with. Luckily, you have the chance to empty out your garage with the Too Toxic To Trash event on August 29th!
From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., you can dispose of any household hazardous waste and e-waste at the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works Headquarters in South Fremont Avenue. There are many items that you can bring to the event, including paint thinner, brake fluid, batteries, pesticides and herbicides, cleaners with lye or acid, pool chemicals, oil filters, expired pharmaceuticals, printers, televisions, computer monitors, cell phones, and much more.
While many types of trash will be taken at the event, there are also some items that will not be accepted, including tires, hazardous and electronic waste from businesses, ammunition, explosives, radioactive materials, controlled substances, and white goods such as stoves, refrigerators, and washing machines.
To safely transport all items to the event, keep these tips in mind.
- Do not mix any of the items together to save space.
- Bring the items in a sturdy box. If possible, bring them in their original labeled containers.
- Be prepared to leave all of your boxes and containers that you use to transport the items. Take everything else out of the trunk of your vehicle.
- Keep in mind that there is a 15 gallon or 125 pound limit of hazardous waste per trip.
